The mint julep is a mixed alcoholic drink, or cocktail, consisting primarily of bourbon (or some other spirit), water, crushed or shaved ice, and fresh mint. As a bourbon-based cocktail, it is associated with the American South and the cuisine of the Southern United States in general, and the Kentucky Derby in particular.


  • 2.5oz Bourbon (We recommend Woodford for your next Mint Julep)
  • .25oz Simple Syrup
  • 10 Mint Leaves
  • 2 Mint Sprigs


Add the mint leaves to the bottom of a Mint Julep Cup. Top with simple syrup. Gently press the leaves with a muddler or the back of a spoon until muddled fully and you have a minty syrup. Add the bourbon. Add shaved ice to the cup so that the ice mounds over the top of the cup for a dramatic experience. Garnish with the mint sprigs.

What is there to say? Fresh mint on the nose, followed by sweetened bourbon whiskey taste and a light minty finish. A super refreshing classic to cool off at the track on a warm day.
